The Outcome Medical Wellness Center incorporates state of the art testing to confirm specific sensory nerve root damage (nerves at the spinal opening). in a patients pain. Research has confirmed that most pain conditions are triggered because of trauma to the body in such a way to impact on the nerves that exit the spine in such a way that spinal nerves are injured or damaged. The nerve and the area around the injured nerve root becomes impinged and inflamed setting off a cascade of symptoms from pain and inflammation. When the nerve root is injured and becomes inflamed, that nerve or nerves lose their ability to transmit a nerve signal, becoming unable to fully communicate with and control the bodily functions and muscles for which it is responsible.
Researchers at LSU believe the nerve root damage is a major reason for the cascade of symptoms such as: PAIN (severe and often throughout the entire body); INABILITY TO SLEEP (usually only in short periods of one to two hours at a time); and some form of ANXIETY (often with no specific reason) all believed to have a direct correlation to the nerve root pathology. The research study with sensory nerve root pathology at the LSU Pain Center confirmed the nerve root pathology in a fibromyalgia test group using sensory nerve testing. Our doctors use the same sensory nerve testing technology used in the LSU study. It is a non-invasive, painless test that designed to identify nerve root pathology in the sensory (feeling) nerves, and if nerve root pathology is confirmed, the treatment focuses on treating the injured nerves, the inflammation, and the pain. This testing is not only used to diagnose nerve root pathology, but patients are retested after receiving their treatments. This is done to confirm the effectiveness of the treatments.
